A: If your child would like to compete, there are competitions available to them from the beginning Canskater, right through to the "Competitive skater". The title "Competitive" refers to a Skate Canada Program called Competitive Skate. There are a series of tests designed for skaters to complete to be qualified to skate at this level. It takes many years of commitment and sacrifice to be considered for this level of skating. If between your family and coach you decide that you would like to pursue that Program you will first need to pass competitive tests to enter into the Competitive Stream. You will then compete at the qualifying competition, Sectionals. If you decide that you would still would like to be challenged, but cannot commit to the hours that are required, there is another stream called STARSKATE designed for the Test Level skater. These skaters still train for competitions and perhaps a qualifying competition, EOSIC. There is a category called the Triathlon where skaters show their abilities as a well rounded skater by competing in Skills, Interpretive and Freeskate. There is an opportunity to advance to National competition in this category and can be loads of fun to prepare for.
